Ok ok, so we dont really ever do reviews…but we were trying to help people make the right monitor choice with this little video. Basically (here we go) when we decided to update our editing hardware, we needed a nice large monitor to go with it too! Countless months later we were still searching for the right one. It is an investment after all so you don’t wont to be staring at disappointment every time you turn your computer on! Anyhow having used LG monitors in the past with no problems we decided to stick with what we know best and so began our search of LG Monitors. Having come across the LG 27MP65HQ-P monitor we then wanted to know what other people thought about it. But no-one had even looked at it yet! Because the monitor was so brand new/recently released there were no reviews about it anywhere! So we just took the chance and went for it! After the initial set-up and quick fix of the calibration settings we were very happy with our purchase! However how could we voice this out to the others who were also considering a new monitor? And hence that is why the video was made! Enjoy!
When we first took the monitor out of the box, the size straight away was impressive – especially as we were upgrading from a 19 inch monitor which was about 6 years old! Then with the old initial set up we must admit at first we weren’t exactly blown away. Not too sure exactly what we were expecting, especially as this wasn’t an WQHD monitor, just a standard 1080P (Full HD) one. None the less we had made a commitment to this monitor (hence the purchase and so we wanted to stick with it. Luckily after a simple calibration we then became amazed by the clarity of the monitor. Bright and vibrant colors, crystal clear picture and just quite simple astounding!
So what about the tech bit? Well the LG 27MP65HQ-P monitor is 27 iches of pure beauty. A simple and stylish design housing a full 1080P HD display. This is an IPS LED monitor. The IPS causes less flicker as well as far less strain on the eyes which is a must for anyone who will be stuck for several hours a day in front of it! The response time is only 5ms which for some people may seem slow but at present we have discovered no ghosting problems so far! However at this point it should be noted we have not yet tested it on games. We’re using it for HD editing and dont really have to time to play games. But if we do we shall post an update showing some game-play footage!
There is a slight light bleed problem in the very far left of the screen but this is barely noticeable. Some people may send the monitor back due to this problem but it really is hardly seen!! The display itself is meant to house one of the worlds thinnest bezels. (border around the edge) however this is ‘kind of’ not true. Although the bezel is extremely thin, you are still left with a 1cm boarder around the edge of the screen. Pretty pointless offering a thin bezel when you still have a line of blackness around the screen. At first we thought it was due to our settings/connections….but unfortunately this is just how it is meant to be!
The monitor does not come equipped with speakers but does have the standard 3.5mm jack in the back to allow you to connect headphones or your own additional speaks. Being totally honest we would prefer the monitor not to have speakers as all monitor speakers are usually the cheapest of the bunch leaving you with a very bad and tinny sound! Whilst on the subject of connections, also available in the back are the standard HDMI connection and for those of you who are still using analogue, you have the standard D_Sub connection.
With an aspect ratio of 16:9 you get to experience true widescreen when viewing films/tv shows or any video for that matter such as on YouTube! The screen itself has a cinema setting which brings out the true cinematic style of the film you are watching. (We however have just stuck to our own calibration)! There is also a reader mode to help reduce eye strain even more and of course the strongly pushed Super Resolution setting which we unfortunately didnt like however if this is for you it is meant to bring your pictures/videos even more to life adding such a vibrant contrast. But as we said earlier…we have just stuck to our calibration settings!
Overall however we are still very if not immensely satisfied with our purchase and would highly recommend this monitor! It has an adjustable tilt, easy to manage touch controls, lots of great features and for the price you quite simply cant go wrong!
